Move Out
Dec 20, 2022
Moving out was a quick four-week process. We were leaving 3,900 sf plus basement and garage and moving onto 200 sf with a bilge. We would require clothes, kitchen ware, linens, toiletries, cleaning supplies, tools, electronics, home offices supplies, sailing wear and boat gear.
We began by sorting everything we owned into the following categories:
church rummage
give away
ship to Letra and Jack, ship to Andrew and Sarah
ship to a boat (location unknown)
pack in car
dumpster
Over the course of a few weeks we sorted, cleared and cleaned. On December 16 we hosted our last party at 481 Illinois Road. Family and friends came by for drink, laughter and hugs goodbye.
On December 20, 8:30am the 24’ box truck arrived. With help from our temporary workers we loaded Letra and Andrew’s furniture. Early afternoon it was on its way to Charlotte, NC for a Dec 22, 9:00am delivery.
We loaded the boat items into a truck and drove them to TWE Warehouse to be palatized and stored until we had a boat and location to ship them.
With the car loaded, we walked into town and had dinner with the a few dear friends of 33 years. We spent the last night in the house, did the final walk through early the next morning, got into the car, said a final farewell and drove away from our home for the last time. All our worldly possessions were now on two pallets at TWE and in our car. We felt free as the wind.
We arrived in Charlotte late the 21st, fell into bed at Letra and Jack’s for a deep sleep and were bright eyed to greet Henry and Louise the next morning. After assisting the furniture movers Letra had hired to unload the truck, we sat down, put our feet up and looked forward to Christmas with the grandchildren
We were officially homeless, boatless and very excited about the future.
