Mallorca - Jewel of the Balearics
September 28, 2024
As we head east into the Mediterranean, our first stop is the stunning island of Mallorca. Home of the Royal Palace, summer residence of the Spanish Royal Family. With heavy southern winds predicted, we elected to anchor on the north side of the island in Port de Pollenca. We relaxed on Bistari the first few days as 30kt gusts and white caps prevented a dingy ride to shore.
Port de Pollença, a delightful seaside resort town was the perfect place to rest and relax after our three day passage. Away from the hustle and bustle of Palma we enjoyed delicious Spanish cuisine, wandering through the quiet streets and our first Espresso Martini.
Palma, on the southern tip of Mallorca is an hour bus ride from Port de Pollenca. The bus system was modern, efficient and offered the opportunity to see the inland beauty of Mallorca.
Palma is a special place. It is a sophisticated seaside city offering the amenities one associates with the jet set visitor. We enjoyed lunch at the market, walked around the stately cathedral and impressive summer palace of the Spanish monarch. History and affluence drip throughout the pristine city center and waterfront. It was a treat to be there.
