Moroccan Desert R & R

With the generator delivery more than a week away, we decided to enjoy the Agafay Desert outside of Marrakesh.

It was an eleven hour trip, just like a day of sailing only here we covered 360 miles in a day. From Gibraltar we took a taxi to Tarifa, Spain, ferried to Tangier, Morocco, boarded a high speed train to Marrakesh and finally bargained (and over payed) for a taxi to the Caravan Agafay Resort … in tents.

It was stunning. We stayed three nights, ate delectable Moroccan cuisine, and did absolutely nothing but sleep, read, eat and swim for three days.

Desert quiet from sunrise to sunset. When the winds picked up in late afternoon, the canvas walls flapped sounding just like sails that need trimming.

Who would have thought a barren walk to the tent could be so beautiful?

The swimming pool saved the day as temperatures got up to 110 degrees. The wonderful thing about the desert is the nights cool down to a comfortable 65 degrees.

Horse training is on the morning. We opted out of the camel ride, having done that 25 years ago on a beach outside of Fez. The ATV rides in the desert were a strong no go for me, but are now wildly popular with the tourists.

Friends from SV Sequel, ARC 2024 came out for dinner. It was magical.

And just like that our three nights in the desert were over and we headed to Marrakesh.
