New Rigging

Rig.ging noun

  1. 1.

the system of ropes, cables, or chains employed to support a ship's masts (standing rigging ) and to control or set the yards and sails ( running rigging ).

Similar to airplanes, sea faring vessels require interval maintenance to insure sea worthiness. And in fact, insurance companies require new rigging after 15 years for offshore insurance.

Bistari was ready for a redressing. With three quotes from recommended riggers, we selected Christian Dam from Dam Rigging in Ft Lauderdale. Christian grew up sailing in Denmark. After moving to the USA in the 1970’s he established Dam Rigging and has been rigging boats ever since.

Christian flew to Urbanna to measure Bistari for completely new rigging. Precision to the millimeter is critical. Our plan was to have the wire, stay locks, ropes etc. ready for Bistari’s arrival on Dec 8. Christian and Marco, his assistant from Brittany, France, would take about two weeks to re-rig the boat.

Marco grew up sailing in Brittany.

Gigantic!

Dam Rigging’s tools made Bistari’s tools look baby tools.

Rigging requires precise measurements.
