Black Point Settlement

Perfect Sail Day

January 28

A beautiful sail today to Black Point Settlement on Great Guana Cay from Staniel Cay.

The rugged coast is beautiful from the shore but is not for the faint of heart sailing through the narrow cut to get to the inside anchorage.

22nm sail to Black Point Settlement from Staniel Cay.

Black Point Settlement

Black Point Settlement is famous for its warm hospitality to the cruising community. The anchorage is well protected, has three dingy docks, several good restaurants including Lorraine’s and DJ’s Pizza, several convenient stores, Ida’s Laundry Mat, Ida’s Haircuts, wonderful beaches and walking paths. Best of all are the friendly people and helpful service.

Lorraine’s Restaurant, already a legend in Black Point, invited the entire town and cruising community for their grand opening of Lorraine’s Cafe. We were fortunate to experience the warm Bahamian hospitality.

Lorraine’s Restaurant Grand Opening

Wonderful party, lots of tributes to Lorraine and all she has done for the community. Conch Ceviche, Conch Fritters, Cole Slaw, Rice and Beans, Baked Chicken, and deliciously deceptive Rum Punch and Coconut Punch.

Ida’s Haircuts

During the Grand Opening Party, we met Ida of Ida’s Laundry Mat and Convenience Store. She had cut fellow cruiser and new friend Debbie’s hair that day. I asked Ida if I could get a haircut the next morning. She said to drop by after 9am. And just like that I had the most beautiful salon view and a great haircut.

Island Regattas are a source of local pride and terrific rivalry between the Cays.

Just off Lorraine’s dock.

Enjoyed a walk around Black Point Settlement.

Inside the town dock shelter.

We’d come back to Black Point Settlement in a heartbeat!
