Little Farmers Cay Regatta

February 1

While in Black Point, we heard lots of talk of the upcoming Little Farmers Cay Regatta on Friday and Saturday. Excited to see our first Bahamian regatta we set sail for Little Farmers Cay, 8nm south. This annual Regatta is a homecoming event for people who grew up on Little Farmers Cay. Highlights included the race, the Little Farmers Cay Yacht Club’s Buffet Dinner open to all (donations go to the local school), an island community of sixty-six residents hosting the regatta for hundreds of people, and the airport’s runway.

This race boat uses a plank off the beam for crew to sit on for leverage as the boat heels.

Road to LFYC

The afternoon before race day an official visited Bistari and asked us to move Bistari further away from the airport runway due to heaven plane traffic for weekend. That evening we headed to Little Farmers for the LFYC buffet. Asking directions, we were a bit perplexed when told to head down the runway, turn right onto the path at the end of the runway and cross the island to the LFYC.

I asked Ken, a private pilot if this is common to have pedestrians use the runway. “Nope”. I mused, what happens when a plane departs or lands?
